Since 1863, a Tradition of Forward Thinking

The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers is the senior national labor organization in the United States. It is North America's oldest rail labor union. The BLE was founded in Marshall, Michigan on May 8, 1863, as the Brotherhood of the Footboard. A year later, its name was changed to the present. The BLE's motto is: "Since 1863, a Tradition of Forward Thinking."

Working Together

We work closely with union officials to protect the rights of railroad workers who are injured on the job. Remember, you don't have to go it alone.

Our mission:

The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers exists to promote and protect the rights, interests, and safety of its members through solidarity, aggressive representation, and education.
